INCLUSIVE ARCHITECTURE WORKSHOP
The theme was creating a small structure for the local community. Each team was free to choose their own location. With a group of architecture students from the University of Moldova, we looked for a place that needed an architectural intervention. We decided that the most suitable spot would be the Orthodox cemetery on top of a hill - the only public space in the village, a place of convergence for the local community. For a large portion of locals, especially the elderly, getting to the top of the hill is quite an undertaking. Once they get there, people tend to stop in front of the cemetery gate and rest before they enter. It is a perfect sightseeing spot with a beautiful view of the village and surrounding area.
We decided to create a resting area with a small public space attached, and designed stairs with a landing that facilitated the climb, and a bench for both rest and admiring the view. The design was made with locally sourced materials, mostly wood.
The project was financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
